Tropical storm Aletta remains active in the eastern Pacific, and has reached what is expected to be its peak strength now. It has 40 mph sustained winds, with somewhat higher gusts. Aletta is moving in a west-northwest direction, and is forecast to swing northwest and north…and then northeast or even eastward towards the Mexican coast during the next 24-36 hours. As this motion back towards the coast occurs, Aletta will reach unfavorable environmental conditions, with an expected steady, or even rapid weakening. Degeneration into a remnant low pressure system is expected in 2 to 3 days.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is also pointing out an area of disturbed weather east of Aletta, and closer to the far southern coast of Mexico…or about 525 miles south-southeast of Acapulco, Mexico. This tropical disturbance is being given a 20% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. Here is a satellite image showing both Aletta, and this area of disturbed weather circled in yellow.
Meanwhile, in the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) continues to show no active tropical cyclones…nor any suspect areas throughout its large AOR.
Tropical cyclone Aletta (1E) is active in the eastern Pacific…located approximately 785 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. (Tropical storm with 40 mph sustained winds)
